“I think Steward is on every health plan that's offered in the state and we'll be on every one also,” Gularek said. Mark Girard, president of Steward Health Care Network, said that Hawthorn doctors will be part of that group with Steward negotiating insurance contracts on the network's behalf. Hawthorn doctors will remain Hawthorn doctors. The latter will become Hawthorn Medical Associates/Steward Medical Group and “all of the employees will be employed by Steward,” Gularek said. Hawthorn Medical Associates is a for-profit group that consists of two entities - Hawthorn Medical Associates LLC, which comprises about 80 doctors, plus nurse practitioners and physicians assistants, and what is currently named Hawthorn Medical/Partners Community Healthcare Inc., which includes about 500 employees ranging from laboratory technicians and X-ray technicians to receptionists, administrators and housekeeping staff. He said he couldn't give the financial details of Hawthorn's 10-year agreement with Steward, which he said was signed in June, but described what it entails. Patients should notice “absolutely nothing” about the shift, Gularek said, other than perhaps more services in additional locations.
